Blood donation is more than just a selfless act—it’s a highly organized, life-saving process. Whether it's a planned surgery, a trauma case, or a thalassemia patient needing regular transfusions, donated blood can mean the difference between life and death. But what really happens behind the scenes when you donate blood?

At Vijaya Sri Blood Centre in Khammam, Telangana, we follow stringent protocols, prioritize safety, and ensure each donation counts. Let’s walk you through the journey of a blood donation—from the moment you walk in, to the moment your blood reaches someone in need.

Step 1: Registration & Medical Check-up

When a donor arrives, the first step is registration, which involves filling out a quick form about their health history and lifestyle. This is followed by a mini health screening—checking blood pressure, pulse, weight, and hemoglobin levels.

Our qualified staff ensures you're fit to donate and that the process is entirely safe—for you and the recipient.

Step 2: The Donation

Once you’re cleared, you’ll be seated comfortably while the donation takes place. The process lasts 8–10 minutes and involves drawing about 350–450 ml of blood. Our sterile, single-use equipment ensures zero infection risk.

A staff member is present throughout to monitor your comfort and health.

Step 3: Post-Donation Care

After the donation, you’ll be guided to rest and offered refreshments. Most people feel completely fine and resume daily activities within a short time. Our team ensures you're well before you leave.

This recovery moment is also a time to feel proud—you’ve just helped save a life.

Step 4: Testing, Processing & Storage

Your donated blood then goes through rigorous testing for blood type and transmissible diseases. Only after clearing all quality checks does it get labeled and stored appropriately—whole blood, plasma, and platelets are separated depending on the medical needs.

This detailed care ensures that every unit of blood is safe for use.

Step 5: Distribution to Patients

Once processed and stored, the blood is dispatched based on demand—be it emergency cases, scheduled surgeries, or chronic conditions like thalassemia.

Vijaya Sri Blood Centre plays a critical role in saving lives across hospitals in Khammam and surrounding regions every day.

Why Donors Matter

Behind every safe, processed unit of blood lies a hero—the donor. Their willingness to take a small step fuels the entire system and transforms lives. We salute the regular donors who make this possible time and time again.
